NEW YORK. Mayor Mamdani announced that New York City is collaborating with the NY/NJ FIFA World Cup Host Committee to offer a limited quantity of $50 FIFA World Cup tickets to New Yorkers through a unique lottery program.
This initiative will give eligible residents the opportunity to enter for a chance to buy up to two discounted tickets. Lottery registration starts on May 25 at 10:00 a.m. ET and will remain open for six days. City officials mentioned that the lottery will allow up to 50,000 entries each day. Once the daily cap is reached, registration will temporarily pause and reopen the next day at 10:00 a.m. ET. Eligible participants can submit one entry daily, allowing for a total of six entries throughout the registration period.
The Mayor made the announcement in Little Senegal, surrounded by Harlem residents, African community leaders and elected officials wearing jerseys representing tournament nations with deep roots in New York City.
“A World Cup is coming to our backyard, and we want to ensure working-class New Yorkers have the opportunity to be part of it,” said Mayor Mamdani. “We sat down with the Host Committee to make certain this tournament belongs to the people who make this city what it is. Today, 1,000 New Yorkers are going to get into those stands for fifty dollars and a free bus ride. I’m proud that New York City is leading the way.”
The ticket program is accessible to all current New York City residents aged 15 and older. Winners will be chosen randomly and notified via email on June 3. Selected participants will then need to complete their purchase of up to two $50 tickets within 48 hours.
Officials pointed out that ticket buyers may need to confirm both their identity and New York City residency using documents like government-issued ID, utility statements, lease or mortgage documents, or recent pay slips.
Fans who obtain tickets must collect them in person on match day prior to using complimentary round-trip transportation to MetLife Stadium. Organizers also stressed that tickets will be strictly non-transferable.
The City confirmed that ADA accommodations will be available for attendees who require assistance.
