NEW YORK CITY. The Indonesian independent band Grrrl Gang performed a surprising performance on the stage of New York City’s Mercury Lounge, last weekend. Over 100 concertgoers who largerly of locals, fans and Indonesian students living in NY, filled one of the premier music club in Manhattan. They went wild for the upbeat rhythms, sonic waves, and indie rock sound that had the entire crowd rocking, moshing and slam dancing. Opening acts performed by Vivian and DJ Disconesia had heightened the energy and warmed up the club atmosphere.
This concert coincided with the release of their new maxi-single, Online 24/7, and performed as part of their U.S. tour titled Clocking In at the End of the World, which kicked off in mid March. "We’ve been waiting, and now we’re clocking in and opening a brand new chapter of noise," said bassist Akbar regarding the spirit of the tour. In addition to New York, the band also performed in Washington D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Fransisco, Portland, and Seattle. They also took the stage at the prestigious SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Grrrrl Gang Band performed a set of 12 songs, including hits such as Birthday Blues, Rude Awakening, Blue-Stained Lips, Spunky, You & Me," Mother's Prayers, Pop Princess, Love Song, and Dream Grrrl.
Grrrl Gang consist of Angeeta Sentana (Main Vocalist/Guitarist), Akbar Rumandung (Bassist/Vocalist) and Edo Alventa (Guitar/ Vocalist) with additional drummer, is an indie music trio hailing from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Since their formation, they have been renowned for their electrifying live energy and candid lyrics exploring everyday life, love, and the anxieties of the younger generation. By blending influences from indie pop, 90s punk, and alternative rock, their sound feels both fresh and nostalgic.
