The South Korean indie rock band, The Rose is coming back to New York, this time not for a concert but through a documentary film.The band that hit a million fans is known for the blending of music between indie pop, alternative rock and sweet love ballads with easy rock music arrangement, strong appearances on the stage performance.
The Rose: Come Back To Me is an intimate documentary showcasing the dramatic rise of The Rose, the most popular Korean indie rock band with roots in the K-pop training system. The film is about the struggle, the fight and behind the stage story of The Rose four members, Kim Woosung (vocals, guitar), Park Dojoon ( vocals, guitar, keyboard), Lee Taegyeom (bass, vocals) and Lee Hajoon (drums, vocals).
In 96 minutes, fans will follow the life of each member from their own perspective, from music preference, personal feelings, to family and music business decisions. The film also shows the role the K-Pop music business industry plays in the independence of music creation by indie musicians. The storytelling dynamic is very smooth, with a docu-reality filming style, to the gimmicks and special video documentation from the band's gigs in bars to major festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza.
The Rose: Come Back To Me, directed by Eugene Yi, an American Korean documentary filmmaker, editor, and writer best known for directing music and social-issue documentaries that focus on culture, identity, and diaspora communities. He is known from two documentary films, Free Chol Soo Lee and The A List: 15 Stories From the Asian and Pacific Diasporas (HBO project).
This film screening is limited and available only in selected theaters in New York.
