NYREADERS.COM - Florida college student Jack Sweeney is in the headlines again after receiving a cease-and-desist notice from popular artist and singer Taylor Swift for tracking her private jet.
The pop star's lawyer sent Jack Sweeney a cease-and-desist letter in December, The Washington Post first reported on Tuesday.
The letter called on Sweeney to stop "stalking and harassing behavior”.
Jack Sweeney, who drew public attention last year for tracking Elon Musk's private jet, told Business Insider that he didn't intend to harm Swift, and he used the accounts for "transparency."
Sweeney manages social media accounts that publish the flights of public figures.
"While this may be a game to you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client. Ms. Swift has dealt with stalkers and other individuals who wish her harm," the letter said, according to the Post.
"We are aware of your public disputes with other high-profile individuals and your tactics in those interactions, including offering to stop your harmful behavior only in exchange for items of value," the letter said.
Sweeney told BI he appreciated Swift's music and had no intention of harming those he tracked. He said he curated the accounts for "transparency and public information."
"I think the people are interested. You should have a decent expectation that your jet will be tracked whether or not I do it as, after all, it is public information," Sweeney told Business Insider.
Up until the end of January, the pop star has two private jets, namely the Dassault 900 jet, which can carry up to 12 passengers, and a Dassault 7X. The Dassault 7X, which has a slightly larger cabin and can carry up to 16 passengers, is still registered to Island Jet Inc., a holding company listed under the same address as Taylor Swift Productions.
The last flight on the Dassault 900 recorded by the jet-tracking site JetSpy was on Jan. 30, 2024, when the aircraft flew from Illinois to St. Louis. The last time her 7X plane was recorded flying was on January 28 from Baltimore to Nashville.
In the past, Sweeney has tracked several other celebrities and billionaire jets, including Mark Zuckerberg, Tom Cruise and Elon Musk. In the case of Elon Musk, Jack Sweeney’s Twitter (X) accounts and other accounts that published such information were deactivated.
