NYREADERS.COM - Donald Trump is "just a guy" and not to be afraid, according to the defamation damages trial of E. Jean Carroll, Carroll and her attorneys said on The Rachel Maddow Show on Monday night.
Roberta Kaplan, a lesbian who is known for her support of women's and LGBTQ+ rights, in particular for overturning the Defense of Marriage Act, and Shawn Crowley, one of her colleagues at the Kaplan Hecker and Fink law company, headed Carroll's legal team.
Both of them joined prominent journalist Carroll on Maddow's MSNBC program to talk about the trial, in which a jury granted Carroll $83.3 million in her lawsuit against Trump for claiming that she had lied to him about having been sexually assaulted. Trump intends to file an appeal.
“I feel that this bodes well for the future,” Carroll told Maddow, as quoted by The Advocate in an article published on January 30, 2024.
“I think we’ve planted our flag. I think we’ve made a statement that things are going to be different, that there’s going to be a new way of doing things in this country because of this indestructible team of lawyers.”
According to Reuters, Donald Trump's lawyer has stated that there might be a conflict of interest with the judge presiding over E Jean Carroll's recent defamation trial, which could lead to the overturning of the writer's $83.3 million verdict.
